What?

A developer is proposing to disrupt 30 acres of mature forest in Olmsted County by building 10 homes. This land currently houses a unique upland great blue heron nesting site (rookery), an important natural resource for our county that experts believe is worthy of preservation and scientific study.  This land is also part of the largest area of contiguous forest in Rochester Township, and is important for other species. We, Save the Rookery, are protesting to raise awareness on this issue.

Why?

The board of Rochester Township currently doesn't consider the environment in their decisions. We want to change this, so they are required to consider the environmental effects of their decisions.

GOAL

  1. Have a Government that listens to its people

  2. Make the Rookery a scientific natural area protected by the government

  3. Vote environmentally sympathetic individuals onto Rochester Township board

  4. Have laws in place that protect wildlife areas, such as this rookery, in Minnesota
