Thank you!
A heartfelt thanks to all our supporters who signed our citizens’ petition, wrote letters (you can read them here), and showed up in person to the Rochester Township Planning & Zoning Commission meeting last night!
The meeting last night was long (nearly 4 hours), contentious, and HOT - held in the Township garage, without air conditioning, on a 95 degree day. The developer’s representatives first dismissed us as “tree huggers” and then outwardly called us racists. Their comments were clearly out of line.
Thank you to everyone who shared your thoughts! The Planning & Zoning Commission voted 2 to 1 to deny recommending the developer’s “pre plat”, which asked for multiple variances and repeatedly failed to comply with township ordinances. At least some of our local government officials are starting to listen to the citizens! The Township Board is scheduled to take up the matter at their meeting on Thursday, July 14 (when there is no public comment period).
