Thurs 3/31, 7PM: Tracking Great Blue Herons

Zumbro Valley Audubon Society Monthly Program via Zoom:
Tracking Great Blue Herons

Presented by
Wildlife Biologist Danielle D'Auria
Thursday, March 31, 2022, 7 - 8 PM

Danielle D'Auria is a biologist for the Maine Inland Fisheries & Wildlife department, who has been tracking Great Blue Herons and preserving rookeries for many years. Did you know the graceful Great Blue Heron can actually migrate over 2,000 miles, sometimes flying for days over the open ocean? Since 2016, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife has deployed lightweight GPS tracking devices on Great Blue Herons to follow their movements during nesting, migration, and wintering. D'Auria will discuss this technology and talk about her work to discover and preserve nesting colonies.
